Pontcysyllte Aqueduct Searchlight Show

On Friday 12 July 2013 huge crowds gathered at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct to see the Word Heritage site landmark lit up on a fabulous summer evening. There were thousands of people enjoying the live music throughout the evening as they eagerly awaited the sky to darken and the light show to begin. The light show directed at the Aqueduct Arches was spectacular and followed by a Fireworks display donated by a local “Kevin” company – an amusing pronunciation of “Cefn” by the compare. Nobody left the evening disappointed. Congratulations to the organisers.

Lasers and searchlight light up The Shard

Shard building launch, lasers and search lights

Shard building launch, lasers and search lights

BRITAIN’S tallest building was officially unveiled yesterday — with a dazzling laser display that lit up the London skyline.

Beams of light shot out of The Shard on the banks of the River Thames to mark the completion of the skyscraper’s exterior.

The view from inside is equally awesome. I was

one of the first journalists welcomed in for a sneak peek a few hours before last night’s breath-taking display, which was rehearsed days earlier.

My ears popped as I whizzed up the middle of the 1,016ft glass structure at a rate of six floors a second.

Although work on the inside is expected to continue into 2013, I was taken 800ft up to the viewing gallery.

It doesn’t open to the public until February but tickets go on sale today at a pricey £24.95 each for adults.

Spectacular … The Shard turns yellow

For that, you do get extraordinary 40-mile views in each direction from the site in Southwark.

Pontcysyllte Aqueduct bathed in light for trust launch

THE world-famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct has been bathed in light to mark the launch of a charity trust.

Glandwr Cymru (Canal and River Trust) is being officially launched today.

The running of the Llangollen canal, including the Pontcysyllte aqueduct world heritage site, will be passed to the new charity, which pledges to transform the historic canals and rivers of North Wales.

The charity is appealing for donations for projects to make the canal a haven for people and wildlife for years to come.

The aqueduct was beautifully lit in an evening event before the launch, to mark the start of a landmark 15-year government contract given to the trust to look after the nation’s waterways.

The trust is taking over from British Waterways and The Waterways Trust in England and Wales, the UK’s first major transfer of state run infrastructure into the charitable sector. Its patron is the Prince of Wales.

Croydon prepares to celebrate the diamond jubilee

Thousands will take to the street this weekend to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee.
Croydon Council has received more than 130 applications for street parties; including 94 road closure requests and more than 20 applications to hold parties in parks and green spaces.

Every school in the borough will be planting a tree in her honour and Wandle Park has been nominated to become a designated Queen Elizabeth II park, to preserve it for future generations.

Search light beacons will also light up the evening sky in Norwood Grove, in the north of the borough, and at Coulsdon Memorial Park in the south.
