Delegates from around the world arrive in the city for the 2018 Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) Conference, which begins today Thursday 11th October. The IWT conference is an opportunity to discuss how wildlife, that is currently suffering at the expense of illegal trade, can be protected and animal welfare charity FOUR PAWS UK wanted to use this opportunity to highlight the detrimental trade in tigers. The charity has uncovered shocking evidence that tiger traders are operating throughout Europe and selling to Asian countries, where demand for their parts is causing mass cruelty and contributing to the decline of the species in the wild.

Buckingham Palace facade was illuminated with a rainforest design projected on to the building on Sunday night, ahead of The Queen’s Green Planet documentary with Sir David Attenborough.

The vibrant image was displayed as part of a global conservation initiative in the Queen’s name, using the palace as a blank canvas to take the viewer into a forest canopy space.

It features Her Majesty’s Commonwealth Canopy Project (QCC) logo embedded with a pattern of foliage and tree silhouettes, transforming the iconic British building.

The project seeks to preserve precious areas of forest for future generations, and will also be the subject of the ITV documentary, which features The Queen and Attenborough and will be broadcast tonight at 9pm.

The projection also comes at the start of a week that will see representatives of 53 countries gather in London for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (Chogm).

Environmental themes and other issues of common interest will be discussed during the summit.

The Queen has planted more than 1,500 trees all over the world during the course of her 66-year reign.
