On Friday 12 July 2013 huge crowds gathered at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct to see the Word Heritage site landmark lit up on a fabulous summer evening. There were thousands of people enjoying the live music throughout the evening as they eagerly awaited the sky to darken and the light show to begin. The light show directed at the Aqueduct Arches was spectacular and followed by a Fireworks display donated by a local “Kevin” company – an amusing pronunciation of “Cefn” by the compare. Nobody left the evening disappointed. Congratulations to the organisers.

Map of London Chinese New Year Celebration 2013

China comes to London in a breathtaking blaze of colour on Sunday 10th February 2013 with the Chinese New Year celebrations. Large crowds are expected to head into the centre of the capital to herald the Year of the Snake, which is all about action, change, innovation and achievement.

The festivities, which are the largest outside Asia, offer revellers a feast of Chinese culture, including a gravity defying lion dance, fireworks and a variety of performers from China and the UK. The opening ceremony with the traditional eye dotting ceremony, takes place at midday in Trafalgar Square. A dramatic firecracker display will signal a cultural feast of Chinese music, dance and acrobatics.

Hunderds of performers will take their place on the Trafalgar Square main stage, including the world-renowned Chen Brothers Flying Lion Dance and variety performers from Guangdong and Sichuan Provinces. Lawrence Cheng, festival director, London Chinatown Chinese Association, which is organising the celebrations, says, “Chinese New Year is the most important festival for the worldwide Chinese community.

It has been celebrated for thousands of years, but nowadays it is welcomed by over a sixth of the world’s population. It is wonderful to witness the celebration of Chinese culture in London. This multi-cultural city sees the largest celebration of Chinese New Year outside Asia.” London’s Chinese New Year celebrations are FREE to attend and family friendly.

Lasers and searchlight light up The Shard

Shard building launch, lasers and search lights

BRITAIN’S tallest building was officially unveiled yesterday — with a dazzling laser display that lit up the London skyline.

Beams of light shot out of The Shard on the banks of the River Thames to mark the completion of the skyscraper’s exterior.

The view from inside is equally awesome. I was

one of the first journalists welcomed in for a sneak peek a few hours before last night’s breath-taking display, which was rehearsed days earlier.

My ears popped as I whizzed up the middle of the 1,016ft glass structure at a rate of six floors a second.

Although work on the inside is expected to continue into 2013, I was taken 800ft up to the viewing gallery.

It doesn’t open to the public until February but tickets go on sale today at a pricey £24.95 each for adults.

Spectacular … The Shard turns yellow

For that, you do get extraordinary 40-mile views in each direction from the site in Southwark.
